The thing I love about threads like this is that they all take as a given - but spend no time reckoning with the implications of - the fact that "convincing enough citizens to support it" is effectively a nonstarter

A benevolent and highly competent dictatorship is absolutely the best possible form of governance in terms of "what can do the most good for the governed" It's also impossible to ensure either benevolence or competence so it'd be an incredibly stupid choice to adopt
