At the core of transmisogyny is, inevitably, misogyny itself. The viciousness with which some people trash trans women for how they look, or their supposed artificiality, or perceived errors in their behaviour, comes from a fundamental loathing of any women who doesn’t conform to their expectations.

I have been wondering about the memes/messaging from ordinary people in the Gulf States. A lot of extremely similar language about being “grateful” to “our government who protects us” plus slamming “the west” for “spreading misinformation” etc. Just influenced or more proactively coordinated?
I’ve got an even more dangerous corollary to this take, because I listened to Lily Allen’s breakup album and then wondered if other angry heartbreak albums just sound bitter and ultimately self-hating, so I went back and listened to Beyoncé’s Lemonade for the first time in ages, and… yep
