When I titled my book "Democracy May Not Exist, but We'll Miss It When It's Gone" I really did not anticipate how hard that phrase would eventually hit.

Once again, this is a massive public jobs program for fascists. This bill was never just about tax cuts and gutting social services. It's about investing our collective resources in violence and using state power to spread fear and destroy solidarity. We need to resist this with all we've got.

The debt, deportation, and death bill has passed. Congress further decimates care work to fund violence work. Vital services eviscerated and ICE becomes the highest-funded federal law enforcement agency ever known. It hasn’t been sold this way, but it’s a massive public jobs program for fascists.

Calls for data center moratoriums are strategic and help build needed leverage. For example, the national moratorium bill introduced by Reps Sanders & @aoc.bsky.social is explicitly designed to force AI regulation—the ban would lift as soon as laws were put in place that actually constrain harms.

i found it incredibly painful to hear tucker carlson repeatedly invoke the legacy of Occupy Wall St and talk about the oppressive burden of debt on the nyt podcast yesterday. the fact that this space is even available for him to, well, occupy is such an indictment of a the democratic party.
