At some point, I wonder when this becomes a fatal quality-of-use issue for the platform. Maybe never. But a lot of us are here because we disliked the earlier version of this on X. And a lot of us have cut back on Facebook use because it’s swamped real-life connections with ads and rage bait.
My column from Monday. For the cost of an incomplete 4,000-bed prison in Elmore, Alabama could have paid for five years of health insurance and peace of mind for 174,000 Alabamians. But our leaders don’t care. Because Alabama government is not designed to help people. It’s meant to control them.
A fun aspect of journalism history: Before bylines became prevalent in the 1920s, some newspapers had something called space rates. Journalists got paid a salary every week. And every week, they would clip their stories that got published that week, and get additional pay for those.
