These are strange times. First I agree with the Pope. Now, heaven forfend, I have to agree with Bill Kristol.

Anthropic's argument will eventually drive us into a dark logic, one that the heirs of the Confederacy will doubtless favor: if AI is conscious and AI can served up as a business, then the moral arguments against treating humans as chattel property fall away. [shudder]
