A peer-reviewed study published in The Lancet estimates more than 64,000 deaths in Gaza due to traumatic injury between Oct. 7, 2023 and June 30, 2024 — a figure 41% higher than the Gaza Health Ministry’s official count. www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...

A classified report by a U.S. gov’t watchdog found that Israeli military units committed “many hundreds” of potential violations of U.S. human rights law in the Gaza Strip that would take the State Department “multiple years” to review. www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec... @johnphudson.bsky.social

Just weeks before a ceasefire, Israel killed 5 Palestinian journalists at Nasser Hospital in Gaza, twice firing high-explosive tank rounds at the stairwell where they were operated. Experts said the strike fit a "pattern of recklessness" on the part of the IDF. www.washingtonpost.com/world/2025/1...

Thank god for @abuaardvark.bsky.social — this is the most clarifying read so far on the Gaza ceasefire agreement, a sobering antidote to the declarations of a “new dawn,” even amid widespread relief that, at least for now, the mass killing has stopped foreignpolicy.com/2025/10/16/a...

On Orwell, the unbelievable stupidities of our era, and how the press can rise to the moment. www.cjr.org/the_media_to...

“I predict the journalists of tomorrow will look back on our time with disbelief at the benefit of the doubt afforded to claims made by Israeli military spokespeople, justifying air strikes on hospitals, ambulances, refugee camps, schools, apartment complexes, ‘safe zones,’ and journalist hangouts. And I think future observers will find it difficult to understand how reporters who tried to move the dial on their employers’ coverage were often forced out or pressured into silence.”

Once again, as Israeli forces pummel Gaza City, the area's already threadbare health-care system is unraveling at a rapid pace, with patients and doctors forced to flee the bombardment and residents burying their loved ones in hospital courtyards. www.washingtonpost.com/world/2025/0...
