I'd like to talk about the Government Accountability Office, a little known but important federal government agency. Headed by the US Comptroller General, it was established in the Budget and Accounting Act of 1921 as a congressional watchdog to investigate public spending.

Funny how reverence for the Founding stops as soon as it becomes inconvenient. And again, I would like to speak to the managers who told me that posse comitatus was never going to be in play.

This was one of those quiet policy changes that made a huge difference on a basic humanitarian level. I am devastated by this reversal of course.

Let's be really clear about this. Disingenuous and downright bad arguments can be made about some parts of the constitution not being self-executing. The 22nd is *not* one of those parts. It is an absolute barrier that can only be lifted through amendment or by eliminating election.

Combine this with the elimination of due process and see what you get. Restoring due process is the first priority, but we must as a society build a legal accountability structure for these tools.

OMG "alumni" is not singular and I will die on this hill and it's embarrassing for an alumni organization to be making this stupid mistake in an email!

Just so everyone understands, as bad as this is, the intent is to move to an environment where an affirmative answer to this question does not mean anything.

"The wholesome "neutrality" of which this Court's cases speak thus stems from a recognition of the teachings of history that powerful sects or groups might bring about a fusion of governmental and religious functions or a concert or dependency of one upon the other

We've discussed worst SCOTUS Chiefs and worst presidents. What about Speakers of the House? To me, really interesting ?, because it could go in either direction: very powerful person who facilitated bad things (ie slavery compromises) or someone who badly damaged Congress as an institution (ahem).

This is an old tactic. During the Dalkon Shield (faulty IUD) litigation, defendant's counsel routinely asked women about their sexual histories and used detailed/offensive questions about wearing hose, wiping back to front, etc. to imply the women involved were dirty. Learn from the best, I guess.
