A reminder that, no, the president (for that matter, the government) cannot strip a natural born citizen of her citizenship. That said, if this renegade SCOTUS wants to change the clear letter of the law, I can think of at least 3, maybe 5, justices the next president might consider denaturalizing.

The same urge for “action” that created Graham Platner is evident in all the social media anger directed at Andy Beshear for not “doing something!” to declare McConnell’s seat vacant and fill it/call an election. He literally can’t. All he can do is use the office to shine a spotlight. Which he has.
This piece resonated. As a historian whose work sometimes focuses on American religious history, ethnicity and political culture, I’ve found that outlets & editors I’ve worked with for years won’t touch anything addressing Jewish political or religious culture. It's a subtle, frustrating shift.
Hot take: Vito Marcantonio wasn’t a particularly effective mover of liberal legislation or policy. You know who was? Boring Cold War liberals like Emanuel Celler, Charles Howell, Edna Kelly, and Pete Rodino. My NY/NJ metro bias showing. But the point is: the center left got a lot of stuff done.
A reminder that Graham Platner said of Hamas’ genocidal attack on Israeli civilians on 10/7/23, a genocidal attack that included mass rape as a war crime: “I dig it.” The people who told us the Nazi tat and Reddit posts were a distraction, that we’re just “corporate” libs, aren’t to be trusted.
Congrats to the Pod Bros, Mo Katz, & the progressive commentariat for pushing aside a qualified woman who has won two statewide races in Maine. Rather, we got a dissembling, Nazi-tatted, Hamas-loving sociopath credibly accused of sexual assault. At least he's not a "Zionist" or "corporate liberal."
