Absolutely this. There are experts out there, many of whom are sharing their work all the time. No need to "be someone else’s hype man if you don’t understand what you’re hyping."

The tension between "stay informed" and "stay sane" is really something this weekend.

Bit of a break this weekend and starting by digging into @kkdumez.bsky.social essential new book. Read the intro a few weeks ago and have been holding on to this pocket of time. It’s sad, it’s enraging, it’s patriarchy. Also you learn where that perky LLL phrase originated.

What a book. Highly recommend, relevant then, relevant now. I knew and appreciated it (and her work on race and regency!) before I got to know the wonderful @triciamatthew.bsky.social. I'm so sorry for the grief of this anniversary, but so grateful for both book and author.

I really need to stop writing my last book. But it would help if there were fewer contemporary politicos with as much confidence and just about as much sense as Blackstone about patriarchy.
