NEW: Megan Twohey and I went deep on Elon Musk’s intense drug use as he rose to political power alongside Trump last year. He was using so much ketamine that he told people it was affecting his bladder. At SpaceX, he is getting warnings ahead of drug tests www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/u...

White House responds to our story: “The drugs that we’re concerned about are the drugs running across the southern border.” No comment on whether Musk’s been drug tested or if Trump was aware

SpaceX’s IPO filing is rife with carve-outs for Musk’s many conflicts of interests across his companies. It literally says he “will not have any duty” to avoid competing against SpaceX. Sue Craig and I detailed the many problems with this last month www.nytimes.com/2026/04/24/t...

SpaceX IPO: Because Musk will own more than 50% of the company, SpaceX doesn’t have to follow normal stock exchange rules for independent directors, according to its financial filing. Which means Musk can again fill a board with his buddies and get little oversight

NEW: Elon Musk took $500 million in loans out at SpaceX, a move that would have been illegal at a public company. It’s just one example of the years of financial engineering he’s been able to get away with. Latest investigation with @susannecraig www.nytimes.com/2026/04/24/t...

Elon Musk’s fans love to perpetuate the myth that he’s living in austerity like Steve Jobs; in fact he’s hiding his massive spending through a secret network of private companies in Texas, our investigation found www.nytimes.com/2026/02/27/t...

NEW: Elon Musk said he was “selling almost all physical possessions” when he moved to Texas. Nope. Instead, he has secretly amassed land and penthouses and planes and mansions. We just had to spend months digging through private company records to find it all. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/27/t...

Musk is saying this like NBD but it is a massive shift, not just for SpaceX but for all his businesses long oriented around getting to Mars. He had already started colonization plans there
