While researching an ancestor’s death on #newspapers.com this column from Cameron, Texas from 1914 show how much has and has NOT changed in 110 years. Children dying from accidents with guns 💔💔🤬 dpt vaccinations prevent death by lockjaw, electric & gas stoves rather than having to make fire indoors

List of notable happenings in Cameron, Texas in 1914: “As a result of a toy pistol wound in the hand, Walter Bejano, 9 yrs old, died in Dallas of lockjaw. Claud Murphy, aged 10, was killed at Corsicana, by accidental discharge of target rifle in hands of cousin. Mrs. CM Minnis of Gainesville died from burns, her apron catching from a stove in which she was making a fire. Since the quarantine was raised in Laredo, Dec 9, there have been 13 cases of yellow fever and 2 deaths. Mona, 3 yr old daughter of JW Thompson, near Grapevine, burned to death. Being in the field where stumps were being burned, her clothing caught fire.
