Still trying to understand the Hyundai ICE raid. Supposedly a months-long investigation that... picked up people here on visas, permanent residents, and U.S. citizens? I also haven't seen anyone charged under 8 USC 搂1324a for hiring undocumented employees. 馃 www.nytimes.com/2025/09/07/u...
Kavanaugh's statements make the problem worse, not better. If the reason SCOTUS is using cryptic shadow docket orders is because "five" of them can't "reach a consensus or a compromise on a particular issue that might be difficult," then that order should not be precedential 鈥攖here's no majority.

Expert witness for the defense, @jengolbeck.bsky.social, is here on Bluesky and she's right, the prosecution was ludicrous. It was also an abuse of the prosecutorial power; MAGA accounts routinely say the same about Democratic politicians but Trump's US Attorneys haven't acted on those.
Legally, this is no different from Iran sinking a Disney cruise in international waters and then saying "it's all good, they were terrorists carrying drugs." Which is to say, it's wholly illegal and has been for centuries. You couldn't even do this with a Letter of Marque and Reprisal.
Yeah yeah, "wisdom of the markets" and all that, but this is a misallocation of capital that could be invested far more productively into our economy. Nvidia knows it too, hence all the circular deals where they 'invest' into something which then uses the money to buy stuff from Nvidia.
Yup. It's a polarized electorate. The primary question for any statewide vote (including the Electoral College) is if people who always vote R or always vote D show up to do that. All other questions are secondary, including the varied (and confused) motivations of the few persuadable swing voters.
I finally tortured myself by looking into the 'controversy' over Mamdani and it's even stupider than I thought: his "aunt" isn't just a female family friend of an older generation, it's his father's cousin. 100% of white people understand that person being called an "aunt." Most would say the same.
We have a growing antisemitism problem in America, but the federal government is controlled by Republicans, so instead of addressing it, the response is (a) to exacerbate it with messaging and (b) to exploit it as a pretext for attacks on academia, particularly women and minorities in academia.
On top of the raw cruelty and the lack of any reason for this beyond the GOP commitment to allowing every rip-off they can imagine, this is also a decision to make prison *worse* at reforming/rehabilitating people, because we're making it harder for them to stay connected with people outside.
