This is a real photograph of Washington, DC this week, where the United States president has ordered military occupation in peacetime, and ordered the display of colossal portraits of himself. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

This is the official spokesperson for the White House, stating that the President hopes to deploy the United States military to occupy every city controlled by the political party that opposes him. Explicitly.

Hi US citizens. You are now subject to sudden seizure at your workplace and lengthy detention, at any time, by a blitz of heavily federal armed troops—despite having committed no crime and not even being charged with any crime. Not my opinion. This is what HSI *says* that it did.

I think of Republican public servants who commanded respect, among Conservatives and many Liberals. Howard Baker. Dwight Eisenhower. Margaret Chase Smith. Everett Dirksen. Teddy Roosevelt. People of honor, above filth and corruption, with whom one could disagree, but leaders with values & dignity.

US tariffs are taxes on Americans. They’re not taxes “on China” or “on Canada”. They’re taxes on Americans who buy anything with any ingredient made abroad, or sell anything to people who do—that is, taxes on all Americans.

A sobering, clear assessment in @pnas.org of the current US policy of international student exclusion. "The damage would not end with academic careers. A discovery becomes a vaccine, a company, and an industry only when someone commercializes it, and that work runs on the same imported talent."

The American people do not want racist nationalism, and the only ‘question’ is why drooling supremacists like him do not experience ‘expulsion’ from institutions that deserve respect.

The US Administration will announce later this week its new $100,000 tax on international students who stay to work ('Optional Practical Training') This is not the H-1B visa tax. It's separate and additional. I analyze some likely effects of the new OPT tax here—> www.iza.org/publications...

My guest today is Will Howell.

Will is the inaugural dean of the School of Government & Policy at Johns Hopkins, which welcomes its first class in fall 2028. His argument is that the standard policy masters degree is no longer fit for purpose. I happen to agree.
