This piece highlights something that doesn't get talked enough: Progressives should put forward a proposed set of rules for a new congress to facilitate defeating the far right and actually legislate.

I don't think I'll ever fully get over the confidence people have in declaring something "stupid" that is based on reading large amounts of scholarship when they haven't read any of the relevant scholarship. So many people can't accept "hmm maybe my superficial understanding is wrong".

Very appreciative of @joelhs.bsky.social's thread here and his qualification/nuance is exactly the kind of conversation I was looking to have. I'm very surprised at how many people think there was a clean demarcation between German and Austrian antisemitism and the situation of Eastern European Jews

Some people are certainly chuckling behind a block about me blocking them for their responses to this, but I see no reason why I have to entertain substanceless condescension from people who have read 50,000 less pages on the history of Antisemitism and European Jewish history than me.

Find it really funny how many people are bringing up Germany & Austria as somehow counterexamples to Antisemitism being intimately tied to a racial system of subordination. I'm 100% sure every single one hasn't read the word "Ostjuden" or know its importance to German & Austrian Antisemitic politics

It's really funny people are treating what I said in this thread as crazy but no one bothered to look at this paper. Look at how Germans talk about "imported antisemitism" and compare it to discourses then about imported bolshevism.

Antisemitism was very much a racial system of subordination and its most virulently ideological forms emerged out of that, or alongside it. To ignore this is to not really understand the past 150 years. The Jew is a person who must live in the Pale of Settlement.
