Georgian students and other protesters have gathered in front of Ilia State University, protesting Georgian Dream’s education reforms that undermine university autonomy, cancel strong academic programs, and particularly target Ilia—the only openly critical state university.

Two more Georgian protesters were sentenced to 4 days in jail for peacefully standing on the sidewalk. One, Zviad Mzhavanadze, posted this video of his “crime.” Prosecutors say he blocked pedestrians and forced them onto the road. In the video, Zviad (circled left) is nowhere near them.

Today, on International Women’s Day, Georgian protesters have gathered outside Rustavi Women’s Prison in solidarity with female political prisoners — many of whom report degrading treatment, untreated chronic pain, and threats in detention.
