These are people who legally entered this country and now, because of ancestry and a conspiracy theory pushed by an aspiring politician, are being pursued by the government and fitted with special monitoring devices. This should remind of the darkest events in history.

Is there any evidence at all that wearing a hijab is correlated with views on "transgender issues"?

My sense is that Republicans convinced themselves that culture war vitriol won them the 2024 election (there is little evidence for this) and they are doubling down on it when backs are against the wall in 2026. Going to be an ugly and probably losing strategy.

The first law of American politics is that pundits will draw sweeping conclusions from a single, narrowly decided result. A race decided by less than 0.5 percent of votes cast: had it gone the other direction, the headlines would be about the unstoppable force of progressive candidates.

This is a good and depressing point. A lot of problems with the American Political system can probably be corrected moving forward. But the President is currently all powerful. Just hoping that Democrats win elections and don't abuse power is not really a functioning democracy.

These toplines bury just how strongly the country disapproves of Trump. Strongly disapprove is 3x more than strongly approve. More people strongly approve than approve at all. A majority of independents strongly disapprove of Trump. Not even a majority of Republicans strongly approve.

A dangerous sign of the breakdown of the independence of law enforcement and judiciary. Trump is sinking but he is also insulating himself.
