So from my uniquely weird perspective after living in the UK through Brexit, being in India during Modi's demonetization, and living in Brazil when the real tanked during the Bolsonaro administration, I can confidentally say that Americans do not and can not understand how bad this is going to be.

Firefighters, famously, have a house they all live in, where they wait for people to call them, actually.

There was so much neurotic moral policing when I was a kid in the 90s and 2000s about what people were doing outside of their homes — how they dressed, how they talked, where they went — but after 2020, we've become obsessed with what we think people are doing or not doing at home.

On how the fear that no one is reading anymore is sorta the same fear that no one is having sex anymore which is really just a fear that, for those of us old enough to remember the before time, the world feels different now in ways we can't really explain www.garbageday.email/p/every-new-...

Couldn't fit this into the piece, but the belief that the left needs its own oaf means that Trump is still dictating the rules of engagement. Believing 1) white working class men are the voters that matter and 2) that they will only vote for themselves is just MAGA with a different coat of paint.

A lot of leftist men were — and seemingly still are — willing to accept Graham Platner's many many faults because they have a sneering, condescending belief that working people in this country are white townie oafs who will only listen to other white townie oafs. www.garbageday.email/p/the-curdli...

OK so I finally saw both: -Backrooms was technically impressive, prettier, and better paced. Would watch again. -Obsession had a tighter script, better characters, and was scarier. But it suffers from orange sludge lighting and is a meaner, nastier film I don't want to ever watch again.

We spent a month hiding out in a Kalshi clipping Discord. We learned a lot of crazy stuff about how this works, but the craziest is probably the tool they have for manually simulating Kalshi markets — which do not actually reflect the market they're advertising! www.garbageday.email/p/we-spent-a...
