So from my uniquely weird perspective after living in the UK through Brexit, being in India during Modi's demonetization, and living in Brazil when the real tanked during the Bolsonaro administration, I can confidentally say that Americans do not and can not understand how bad this is going to be.

Firefighters, famously, have a house they all live in, where they wait for people to call them, actually.

Our podcast episode about section 230 with @brihreed.bsky.social is out today. I think we cover every argument for and against repealing it. Worth a listen if you're trying to wrap your head around this stuff. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgRg...

The video pivot that started in 2020 has clearly reached the zenith of its stupidity and while old media tries to steer their beleaguered newsrooms towards the last next big thing, the next next big thing is clearly just over the horizon. www.garbageday.email/p/oh-look-we...

Everyone suddenly wants to regulate tech platforms in the US, but no one wants to say the word "monopoly." www.garbageday.email/p/meta-bad-b...

Two things that are, unfortunately, true: -Massive algorithmic tech platforms need to be regulated -There is no proposed regulation in the US that legally defines a site like Facebook as being different from like the comment section on someone's cooking blog Without that we destroy the internet.

TikTok banned a video we made making fun of Benjamin Netanyahu and continues to change the official reason why. www.garbageday.email/p/our-conten...

I hate to say this, but it's the lack of video on here. X is still far more useful than Bluesky during breaking news events because users there have way more options for multimedia. Bluesky video has to be under 100mb. It's a huge pain to post. Also, the Bluesky mobile app is still super clunky.

TikTok moderation is complete garbage. Every other platform was fine with this, but apparently TrumpTok has such an itchy finger around Israel content they won't even allow a simple video DEBUNKING all the Netanyahu AI stuff from this week. (Sorry for potato quality, Bluesky video is also bad lol.)

Tried to untangle my feelings on Conner O'Malley (who I love) using AI in his videos (which I think are great). Ultimately, you can only disrupt the system from the inside for so long before it consumes you. www.garbageday.email/p/can-you-us...

Last night's Oscars were fun, as long as you ignore the looming specter of the internet gobbling up Hollywood. And it led me to ask a question that's been nagging me for sometime: What happens, specifically, to acting in a world dictated by short-form video? www.garbageday.email/p/the-death-...
