Hi, new followers! I wrote a book back in 2018 about Jewish anarcho-theocracy. You might like it if you are interested in the idea of God’s direct rule without a human intermediary, as devised in Weimar Germany and with application to colonial Palestine. Also if you only know Buber from “I and Thou”

every Jewish Studies colleague I know who had an NEH grant saw their funding cut earlier this year. now we know where the money went: to the far-right, "western-civilization"-worshipping Tikvah Institute to promote their vision of "Jewish Civilization" as a foundation stone of "the West"

almost one year in i feel like my analogy between 2024 and 2004 is still mostly holding? bush II got increasingly unpopular while doing authoritarian things on the basis of a false perception that he had a massive mandate (i.e. won for real after previously only fake-winning). wound up disgraced

live your life in such a way that it won’t be considered an insult to your memory to post unedited direct quotes of things you said in public repeatedly

so... kinda feels like dirigisme is winning right now (assuming that is a more accurate description of the chinese economy than "communism"). have the free-market fundamentalists caught wind of this yet?

seems like a good day to recall one of my favorite political parody songs: "the people's flag is palest pink / it's not as red as most folk think / we must not let the people know / what socialists thought long ago!"

"Protective presence," for those who don't know, is when Israeli Jews and international activists use their privilege to physically shield Palestinians from violence. This typically happens in the West Bank but due to the fascist march in Jerusalem there are more cameras on it today.

Apropos of nothing, here’s a Nazi propaganda poster trumpeting the achievements of the years 1933-38. The headline is freeing the country from the impositions of the treaty of Versailles. Most people now agree that Versailles was in fact harsh and unfair in its terms. Do we “hand it to them?” No

this guy has the withering contempt I want to see from national candidates. none of this “we need a sane Republican Party” or “this is not normal” stuff. just tell them what they are to their faces directly.

sorry but if you fall for the line that “objecting to Haidt’s argument that you are coddled means you are coddled” you are a pure, 100% mark

has anyone done an analysis on a district-by-district basis of how many of the new GOP districts might be dummymanders in a wave election?

Legislators and administrators: we don’t want to fund your programs anymore. But don’t worry, you have private donors for that Private donors:

“Ed Beck, a retired mental-health counselor and academic in the Philadelphia area, is among those who think that Jewish studies has failed to sufficiently advocate for Jewish interests. ‘I’m not interested in how many knishes a Reform Jew can eat versus an Orthodox Jew can eat, which is kind of the things they study in Jewish studies,’ he said. ‘I’m interested in: Why do they hate us, and why do they want to kill us, and what can we do to stop that?’ He is concerned that more Jewish studies professors do not oppose the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement against Israel.”
