Rep Lauren Underwood was the first Black person, first woman, and first millennial elected to represent her Illinois district, which she flipped from red to blue, defeating a four-term GOP incumbent. She’s had 14 bills signed into law by both D and R presidents. She’s the future.

This race will have significant down ballot consequences. All 99 seats in the assembly are up for election. To win control, Dems only need to gain 5 seats. Seventeen of 33 Senate seats are on the ballot. Dems only need 2 seats for control. Instead, we may be looking at a Republican trifecta.
