Research in pie history: The Hartford [Maine] Custard Pie Association, to which Massachusetts Governor & President William McKinley's Secretary of the Navy John Davis Long belonged. The annual meeting featured, for a while, custard pies baked in milking pans: 4" high, 10-16" in diameter.
