There’s a lot to do if/when we get past all *this*, but a requirement to run as a Democrat should be support for codifying Bivens. (If federal officials deprive you of clearly established constitutional rights, you should have the same remedies as when Georgia or Utah officials do. Winning issue.)

Proud to be a signatory on this letter. And, as if to prove the point, here’s the DOJ official responsible for ousting Jim Ryan and leading the “negotiations” with our Board of Visitors. It has nothing to do with protecting Jews; 100% with advancing a far-right partisan agenda.

Ryan’s shameful ouster is on all of them, for sure, but don’t sleep on AG Jason Miyares. UVA’s GC works for him, not the President; our GC is technically a “Senior AAG.” It’s tough for UVA to fight Trump with two hands tied behind our back. (Something to consider this Nov. if you vote in VA.)

I will be listening to this on loop for at least the next 48 hours. (Spooky, droney, weird, perfect music from @lankumdublin.bsky.social.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLLn...

This is heartening. We made our first contribution to @katmabu.bsky.social this morning and I hope she wins--there's a reason she's being attacked so hard by Trump and AIPAC--but we need more of this kind of solidarity from elected officials and Dem candidates.

Again, not the most important here, but I'm begging for a journalist to figure out how/why NPS put up a Confederate statue DURING A GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN. How is this "essential" when food stamps are not?

This morning, ICE was camped out in front of the bilingual elementary school (Bancroft) in our neighborhood. Clearly targeting the “gang members” and “criminals” in the 1st Grade. (They left when neighbors began blowing whistles and making noise.)

Periodic reminder that Rule 48(a) allows the judge to conduct further proceedings---including getting some answers to the judge's interesting and probably really important questions---prior to granting the Government's motion (even in circumstances where the motion is unopposed).

We should have a qui tam system for habeas / parole / second look sentencing / compassionate release/ post-conviction relief. (If you win, the pro bono attorney gets 30% of the money the government would’ve needlessly spent incarcerating the prisoner for however many years.)

Just gave final approval sign-off for the "proof" pages of my article. 39,000+ words 🤪 (Apologies in advance to anyone foolish enough to read. But y'all better read. . . I'm honestly so excited for this thing to be out in the world.)

Pursuant to UVA's agreement with DOJ, UVA has promised it will not adopt these sorts of policies to end the radical underrepresentation of Black students at Virginia's leading public university. Does federal law require that? Of course not: it's perfectly legal. But that's the "deal" we signed.

How many statues to Nazi generals did (either) Germany erect circa 1985? None. Because those would have been monuments to Nazis. (Also, slightly less important, but has anyone asked the Department of Interior why NPS employees were doing this during a government shutdown? Essential workers?)

There are many reasons (e.g., organized communities) that Trump's attacks on Chicago are going to backfire, but one of them is number of really, really, really good local civil rights lawyers ready to push back.
