Those of us who study authoritarian societies understand well how political violence gets used. The leaders' rhetoric stokes fear & division, while the state increasing violence suppression. Any act of violence against the state or its supporters becomes a justification for additional state violence

Trumpβs hostility to refugees is among his positions that most infuriate me. We have moral and international law obligations to welcome refugees. But even selfish interests would dictate our welcoming them, because of how much they contribute to our society and economy.
When I cancelled my @washingtonpost.com subscription a few weeks back, there was nowhere on the form that asked why.
